How the AI-generation estimate works

Vision Transformer classifier

An open-source Vision Transformer (ViT) classifier estimates how likely an image is to be AI-generated. It runs in account scans on every plan, including Free.

Supporting heuristics

A CLIP image model and checks for artifacts typical of image generators feed into the same estimate, along with AI tool names in the file name or metadata.

One signal among several

The estimate adjusts the image's copyright risk score. AI images can still copy protected work or carry a watermark, so treat it as one signal, not a verdict.

What the estimate can't tell you

  • • Whether an image is definitely AI-generated. It's an estimate, and no detector is right every time. Heavy editing, resizing and compression make images harder to judge.
  • • Which generator made an image. A result names a likely tool only when the file name or the image's metadata mentions one.
  • • Whether you can use an AI image. The rules differ by country and depend on the generator's terms; our guide covers AI-generated images and copyright.
