Built for WordPress sites

Know which images on your WordPress site
need a closer look.

Previous admins, old themes, and WooCommerce product imports leave behind images nobody has a license record for. PixGuard flags the ones that carry copyright risk signals, such as stock-agency watermarks or copyright metadata, and shows the reasons behind each score.

Checks the 3 largest images on one page, free. A free account includes 30 image scans, no card required.

3 free scans per day. No signup required.

Where risky images come from on WordPress sites

Previous admins

A contractor added a stock photo years ago, and the license, if there was one, left with them. The image is still live on your site.

WooCommerce imports

Product imports via CSV or supplier feeds pull thousands of images of unknown provenance straight into your media library.

Theme demo content

You activated a theme and never replaced the demo images. Some were licensed only for the theme demo, not for your production site.

Doing it by hand? Here's how to check your site's images for copyright, step by step.

WordPress Plugin

Check your images from WordPress

PixGuard Scanner is free to install from the WordPress.org plugin directory. It connects to your PixGuard account with an API key from Settings, and each new image it checks uses one of your account's image scans. Read how the plugin works and what it costs.

Or search “PixGuard” under Plugins → Add New in your WordPress admin.

What a Copyright Claim Can Involve

A demand letter is a request for payment from a rights holder or their agent. It is a settlement request, not a court judgment.

In the US, statutory damages under 17 U.S.C. 504(c) range from $750 to $30,000 per work, up to $150,000 for willful infringement, and are available only for works registered in time (17 U.S.C. 412).

A PixGuard risk score is an estimate. A low score is not permission, and a high score is not a finding of infringement.

General information, not legal advice. Rules differ outside the US.

Why this exists

Built by someone who got tired of demand letters.

Some stock agencies and photographers use image-matching services to find copies of their photos online, and a match can end in a demand letter. Meanwhile it's easy to lose track of where a site's images came from. Stock photos get reused. Old contractors leave behind assets nobody has a license record for.

Reverse image search can find copies of one image, but it doesn't tell you which of your images to look at first. So I built PixGuard. It checks each image for copyright risk signals across up to 9 detection stages, depending on plan, and gives it a 0 to 100 risk score with the reasons behind it, so you can decide what to replace, license or keep.

Why scan before you publish?

Unchecked images can lead to copyright claims, takedown notices and licensing letters. Checking before you publish gives you time to replace or license an image while it's easy to change.

Common questions

The short answers people ask most.

Do scans expire?
Image packs never expire. Monthly subscription scans refresh each billing cycle, so unused ones don't roll over. Free signup scans expire 30 days after you create your account.
What happens when I run out?
Your next scan asks you to upgrade or grab a pack. Images we've already analysed are free to rescan.
Are cached scans free?
Yes. If an image has already been analysed on PixGuard, by you or anyone else, we reuse that result and rescanning it costs nothing. Images we can't analyse aren't charged either.
Do I need to pick features or toggles?
No. Every account scan runs watermark, metadata, fingerprint and AI-generation checks automatically. Pro and Business add similarity matching for edited or cropped copies, AI vision review of borderline images and source lookup for high-risk images (web pages where a matching image appears). The no-signup page check is lighter: it looks for watermark patterns, a stock-photo look and unusual pixel patterns.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from the Credits page in your dashboard. Your plan keeps working until the end of your billing cycle. Any packs you bought stay in your account.
Can I scan an entire website at once?
Up to a limit. With an account, a website scan follows links across up to 50 pages of your site and scores the images it finds, up to your plan's per-scan limit: 10 new images on Free, 500 on Pro and 2,000 on Business. Results show each image's 0 to 100 risk score in one dashboard, sorted by risk.

More questions about credits and scans are on the FAQ page.
